The Equinox’s short trim list can still hide bad value
The Chevrolet Equinox is back for 2026, and while deciding on a trim may seem more straightforward with the model’s three gas grades, fewer options don’t automatically equal an easier choice. We’re going to provide a feature-focused breakdown of the 2026 Equinox’s trims, exploring key aspects like performance, interior amenities, connectivity, and safety. Afterward, you’ll have a clearer understanding of its standard and optional features, price differences, and daily ownership feel to guide your SUV choice. Learn more about the 2026 Equinox’s three trims, sold separately from the 2026 Equinox EV (electric vehicle), with the rest of our guide below.

Chevrolet
Equinox LT (FWD / AWD) – $28,800 / $32,795
It’s increasingly difficult to find SUVs with a starting MSRP of under $30,000, but the Equinox gets the job done. Opting for all-wheel drive (AWD) puts you over a $30,000 starting price, but one consolation is that AWD availability isn’t a given with some rivals’ base trims. Selecting AWD across the 2026 Equinox’s lineup also gives you an 8-speed automatic transmission instead of a continuously variable transmission for a more conventional feel, and a higher torque output of 203 lb-ft instead of the front-wheel drive’s (FWD) 184 lb-ft. Horsepower remains the same between FWD and AWD at 184, and all drivetrains have 175 horsepower.

A common pain point among base-economy SUVs is bland design. Everyone knows that selecting an entry-level economy trim means trading some comfort, tech, and design perks for savings, but you still want to feel something when you’re behind the wheel. One way that Chevrolet keeps the Equinox LT engaging is by including a standard 11-inch digital instrument cluster, complementing the 11.3-inch touchscreen. More often, economy class base trim instrument clusters include analog gauges and much smaller panels. Entry-level bare bones design typically extends to the exterior, but the LT’s available design options, such as two-tone color combinations, maintain curb appeal, and you’ll receive standard alloy wheels, not wheel covers. Further, the Equinox LT’s tech excels with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, heated front seats (which are rarer in economy base trims than you may imagine), and six speakers.
You’ll need to select some available options to help the Equinox LT stand out, but your money will be well spent. The Convenience Package II is the add-on you should foremost consider, as its perks, including but not limited to wireless smartphone charging, an 8-way power driver’s seat adjuster, and a hands-free power liftgate, make a noticeable impact on daily driving. Overall, Chevrolet gets a lot right with the Equinox LT.

Chevrolet
Equinox Activ (FWD / AWD) – $33,600 / $37,595
Like any mid-tier trim, the 2026 Equinox Activ is for drivers seeking added comfort and tech without fully ditching cost considerations. There’s a decent-sized price jump between the Equinox LT and Activ, so let’s take a closer look at the Activ’s standard features to determine if this progression is logical. Moving up a model’s trim lineup, shoppers naturally expect more standard features, and the Equinox Activ delivers this in more ways than one. On the exterior, drivers gain roof-mounted side rails, dynamic-looking 17-inch Dark Android machined-face aluminum wheels, and the previously optional Convenience II package becomes standard, unlocking automatic wipers, the power liftgate, and more. Inside, upholstery graduates from cloth to sueded microfiber, and the available Convenience III package is headlined by ventilated front seats and heated rear outboard seats.
So, why not just equip the LT with the Convenience II package and call it a day? Because the Equinox Activ is geared toward those preferring a more adventurous flavor. The only problem is this approach is more surface-level, whereas the best adventurous SUVs balance form and function. For example, the Activ distinguishes itself with all-terrain tires, a more rugged front fascia, and durable sueded microfiber seats. However, its trim-exclusive suspension tuning is more subtle and not a game-changer for most buyers. Unless the Activ’s off-road-ready looks really speak to you, you’re better off sticking with the LT.

Chevrolet
Equinox RS (FWD / AWD) – $33,600 / $37,595 (150)
Yes, you read the above pricing correctly. The MSRPs of the Equinox RS are the same as those of the Equinox Activ. Since the sticker prices are identical, you’d be right to assume that many of the standard upgrades when progressing from the LT to the Activ carry over to the RS. However, like the Activ, the RS differentiates itself by emphasizing sportiness, but its approach is also reflected visually. Examples of these cosmetic touches include blacked-out exterior accents, 19-inch Carbon flash metallic machined-face aluminum wheels, and black synthetic leather. While both the Activ and RS primarily communicate their road ethos through surface tweaks, the RS’s are more noticeable day to day, especially the black synthetic leather upholstery.

Final thoughts
We didn’t ignore safety in our evaluation, but standard and available safety features are essentially the same across all Equinox trims, making the information above more critical in reaching a verdict. For most buyers, the 2026 Equinox LT is the smartest option thanks to its strong price-to-value ratio, which isn’t a given for entry-level trims. The LT’s available AWD and packages cover gaps, and its Activ/RS counterparts’ enhancements are mostly for those looking to make a style statement. Be sure to test drive the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox LT before making a purchase.
