This 9,000-Pound GMC Hummer EV Just Beat Five Supercars From 0–60

GMC’s Hummer EV beats five Euro and domestic rivals to 60 mph, despite having four occupants and a camera rig adding to its considerable weight.

GMC recently took to the Texas Motor Speedway to film a rather unusual drag race (embedded at the bottom of this article). The lineup included a Ferrari F8 Tributo, a Ford GT, a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, and a Porsche Taycan, and as the quartet of high-performance cars left the line in a race from 0-60 mph, our vantage point is that of the camera car. Which would win? Well, none of the above. The camera car is victorious by a big margin, and as the race comes to an end, we see that it’s a 2026 GMC Hummer EV Carbon Fiber Edition, which is new for 2026. Even more embarassing for the other marques is that, along with the heavy camera arm, the monstrous electric pickup is carrying four people.

GMC Hummer EV Beats Exotics Even with a Handicap

GM says that the electric truck was able to repeat the feat multiple times in the 90-degree heat without any dropoff in performance, so the race was run again — this time with the Hummer EV starting a car length back. Even so, it was able to beat all four of the other cars with ease. That’s thanks to 1,160 horsepower in 2026 3X (tri-motor) trims with the available 24-module battery, which GMC claims can translate to a 0-60 mph time as low as 2.8 seconds. “We changed the calibration based on a better understanding of what the battery and the motors are capable of,” said GMC Hummer EV lead engineer KC Connolly. “That’s what enabled us to drop the 0-60 mph time below three seconds.”

It goes without saying that if the race were run over a longer distance, where off-the-line traction is less of an issue and the combustion-powered cars could let their engines show their true potential, the Hummer would get smacked, and if the race involved some corners, the other cars’ lower center gravity and smaller mass would pay off. But as the end of the video shows, the Hummer can do other thing that these low-slung cars can’t, like go off-road. While the Hummer may be a symbol of excess (some variants weigh up to 9,640 lbs), so are its rivals in this race, and besides the Taycan, none of them can fit more than two adults in comfort.

Available for both pickup and SUV variants of the Hummer EV 3X trim, GMC’s new Carbon Fiber special edition equips the vehicle with Magnus Gray Matte paint on the outside and a Velocity Ember theme inside. 22-inch carbon fiber wheels are joined by a carbon fiber skid plate insert and a gloss black approach shield. What does this cost? Well, we don’t know. GMC’s website says to ask your dealer for pricing, but what we can say is that a normal 3X starts at $107,995 for either pickup or SUV, excluding a $2,495 destination charge for 2026.
